Safe EV Charging Across the Pavement
A secure, council-approved pavement gully that lets you charge at home without creating hazards or breaking regulations.
How Charge Gully Helps You
Charging an EV at home is the cheapest and most convenient option, but this isn’t possible for millions of UK drivers who don’t have a driveway. Without off-street parking, people are forced to rely on costly public chargers or resort to unsafe methods of running a cable across the pavement, which creates trip hazards and is banned by local councils.
Charge Gully provides a safe, compliant alternative. Our recessed pavement gully protects the charging cable, keeps walkways clear for pedestrians, prams and wheelchair users, and is designed to sit neatly within the pavement for everyday use.
A simple, secure and long-lasting way to make home EV charging possible for anyone without a driveway.
How To Use Charge Gully

Home charging remains the most cost-effective way to power an EV, typically costing far less than public charging. Regular home charging can significantly reduce annual running costs and deliver a rapid return on investment.
For residents who choose to share access through peer-to-peer charging platforms, there is also potential to generate additional income by allowing neighbours to charge safely.
If you’re asking, “Can I run a cable across the pavement to charge my car?”, the answer depends on who owns the pavement outside your home.
Private pavements
We are already accepting orders for installations on unadopted pavements owned or managed by private landowners such as property management companies or resident associations.
You’ll need permission from the landowner before installation. If planning permission is required, we can supply all supporting documents needed for your local planning authority.

Public pavements
If your pavement is adopted and maintained by the local authority, we are currently working with councils across the UK to secure approval for installations in each area.
How to Get Charge Gully
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, but only with approval.
Running a charging cable across a public pavement is not permitted unless the local authority has approved a compliant solution. Temporary measures such as loose cables, mats, ramps, or DIY covers are typically not allowed due to trip hazard and liability risks.
Charge Gully provides a recessed, council-approved method for safely routing a charging cable across the pavement once authorisation has been granted by the relevant local authority.
-
In most cases, yes.
Where the pavement is adopted, a householder planning application is usually required. Charge Gully supports this process by providing the technical documentation needed by local planning authorities. Please note that planning application fees are set by the local authority and are not included in installation costs.
-
Installation is quick and professionally managed.
In the vast majority of cases, installation takes less than two hours. All works are carried out by New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 certified contractors, in accordance with the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (4th Edition) and its Electric Vehicle addendum.
-
Yes.
Charge Gully is compatible with all electric vehicles and standard home charging cables. The channel is designed to accommodate common cable sizes and works with both untethered chargers and portable charging leads, without restricting normal charging use.
-
If the pavement is adopted, local authority approval is required.
Public pavements are usually managed by the local authority’s highways department. In these cases, Charge Gully can only be installed once approval has been granted. We are working with local authorities across the UK to secure approvals and run trials, and once approval is in place, installation can proceed in your area.
